June 16, 2026. Snap Inc. has made a major technological breakthrough by officially unveiling its new augmented reality device. The new glasses, dubbed Snap Spectacles Pro, are positioned as a full-fledged alternative to modern smartphones. The device is priced at $2,195, emphasizing its premium status and targeting technology enthusiasts and professionals.
A revolution in wearable electronics
Unlike previous generations of Spectacles, which were more of content-capturing accessories, the new model has become a standalone computer. The device is equipped with Snap's own compact but high-performance processors, which allow for the display of complex 3D graphics directly on top of the physical world with minimal latency.
During the presentation, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel stated that the company's goal is to "eliminate the need for users to constantly look down at their phone screens." According to him, Spectacles Pro is the first step towards a world where digital comfort is seamlessly integrated into everyday life.
Key features:
Next-generation displays: The optical system provides ultra-high image clarity, allowing you to read small text and interact with virtual objects in daylight.
Spatial Computing: The glasses support gesture recognition and voice control, enabling you to move browser windows, control your smart home, and communicate in messaging apps without using your hands.
Autonomy: The device runs on a specialized OS that syncs with Snap's cloud services, making it independent from your smartphone for most everyday tasks.
Design: Despite the powerful stuffing, the engineers managed to maintain a relatively compact form factor, bringing the glasses' appearance closer to classic frames.
Bet on the premium segment
The price of $2,195 sparked discussions among market analysts. Experts note that in this way Snap deliberately distances itself from the mass market, targeting "early adopters" and the corporate sector.
"Snap is not trying to compete with budget devices. This is a product for those who want to be the first to experience the technology of the future, while sacrificing the functionality of a pocket-sized smartphone," says technology market analyst Sarah Jenkins.
Challenges for the future
Despite the enthusiastic reviews about the picture quality, the device faces a number of challenges: from the battery life, which is still limited to a few hours of active use, to the need to improve the app ecosystem.
Starting today, Snap is opening pre-orders on its official website. The first deliveries to customers are expected in early July 2026. Only time will tell whether Snap can convince a wide audience to abandon smartphones in favor of AR glasses, but the company's move is clearly reshaping the landscape of the personal electronics market.
