On June 24, 2026, Zoox, a subsidiary of Amazon, officially unveiled an updated version of its fully autonomous robot taxi. The presentation, held at the company's headquarters, marked an important milestone in the preparation for the large-scale commercial launch of the service in the United States.
New Design: Emphasis on Comfort and Safety
The updated model retained its recognizable "coach" design (without a steering wheel or pedals), but underwent significant improvements. Zoox engineers have improved the exterior sensor system by integrating it more seamlessly into the vehicle body, resulting in a 360-degree view that is enhanced even in challenging weather conditions.
The interior has been redesigned with a focus on a premium user experience. The four-passenger cabin now features an adaptive lighting system, an improved multimedia platform, and new materials that are easier to sanitize, which is a key requirement for modern urban transportation.
The emphasis is on technological superiority
The main innovation is the updated computing architecture. According to Zoox representatives, the new generation of taxis is equipped with a new type of processor that can process sensor data in real-time with minimal latency. This is crucial for safety in the dense traffic of major US cities such as Las Vegas and San Francisco, where the company is already actively testing its products.
"We are not just creating a car; we are creating a mobility service that prioritizes passenger safety and comfort. Today's display is not just a demonstration of hardware, but also a demonstration of readiness for scaling," the company's management stated.
The path to commercial launch
The design presentation is the final act before entering the commercial market. Amazon, using its logistics capabilities and infrastructure, is actively supporting the integration of Zoox into the urban transportation ecosystem.
Analysts note that the decision seems timely: against the backdrop of growing demand for eco-friendly urban transport and a shortage of drivers in major cities, unmanned solutions become economically viable.
What's next? The company has confirmed that it plans to expand its service to several new states by the end of 2026. It is expected that the "open test" phase will begin shortly after the presentation, during which a limited number of users will be able to use the robotaxi for city trips.
With today's update, Zoox is making a significant claim to leadership in the self-driving technology race, challenging players like Waymo and Tesla and proving that the era of "driverless cars" is transitioning from experimentation to everyday reality.
